Strip Symmetry

Materials:  Handouts

Step 1:

¨      Actively read Investigation 9.10 on pp. 518-21 of Bassarear.

¨      Actively read about translations (pp. 494-7), reflections (pp. 497-8), rotations (pp. 499-500), and combinations of these transformations (p. 500-2) in Bassarear.

¨      Do problems 1d, 16, and 20 starting on page 531 in Bassarear.

¨      Theres is a strip pattern in the architecture of Hopper Gym (top of outside wall).  Roughly sketch it and describe the strip symmetry.

¨      Actively read about "Reflective Symmetry" in Math for Fun.  Describe the strip symmetry of paper dolls.  Can you fold a strip and make paper dolls that results in a different symmetry?
