Kanchanaburi

We rode in a Third Class compartment up to the railhead with a Thai school group.

Unlike the film version, the actual bridge was made out of steel and concrete. The bluffs are modest, and the central spans were taken out by an airstrike as opposed to a commando operation. Also, if Alec Guinness had actually tried any of that stuff he would have just gotten beheaded.

Ruins of Ayutthaya

About half of the group climbed up the rather steep steps of this chedi. Another group stayed at the base. Finally, a small group climbed up on the shady side.

When they sacked the city, the invading Burmese decapitated the numerous Buddha statues inside the temple walls.
